Synopsis

Centuries of hostility have defined the Iga and Kouga ninja clans until a powerful warlord enforces a fragile truce. In the years that follow, Gennosuke Kouga, heir of the Kouga, and Oboro Iga, heir of the Iga, form a romantic bond and intend to unite their houses through marriage to end the conflict. Their plans collapse when clan animosities resurface and both sides are drawn back into violent contention. A succession dispute between two grandsons of the shogun escalates into a lethal contest: each clan must field its ten finest fighters to compete in a ruthless battle to determine which claimant will gain the shogunate’s favor. Names are recorded on two scrolls and are to be stained with blood as combatants fall; the winning side secures the shogunate’s support for a millennium. Torn between personal commitment and obligations to their people, Gennosuke and Oboro face a choice that will determine the future of their clans.
