Synopsis

On the world of Terra, the emergence of a dark crystalline substance called Originium has driven rapid technological progress; its immense energy output enables people to manifest phenomena resembling magic, known as Arts. Massive Originium deposits are often discovered at Catastrophe sites—cataclysmic events linked to the mineral itself. Use of Originium carries severe consequences: exposure risks developing Oripathy, a fatal and highly transmissible illness. Infected individuals face brutal social exclusion by nations, prompting a militant resistance named Reunion that retaliates through ruthless attacks on urban centers, worsening the devastation associated with Catastrophes. Opposing both discrimination and violence is Rhodes Island, a paramilitary medical organization that treats infected and uninfected alike and is recognized for leading research toward an Oripathy remedy. The effort centers on an enigmatic scientist known only as the Doctor, whose loss of memory hampers progress on what may be the sole path to relief for those afflicted.
