Synopsis

In the desert kingdom of Asran, photojournalist Makoto Shinjou arrives at the isolated airbase known as Area 88 to observe the lives of mercenary pilots who carry out lethal missions for the state. Among them is Shin Kazama, a talented Japanese pilot who was deceived by his one-time friend into signing on with the squad, costing him his commercial aviation career and his engagement to Ryoko Tsugumo. Stranded at the base, Shin confronts three stark options to regain his freedom and return to Japan: complete a three-year term of service, accumulate a payment of US$1.5 million, or attempt to flee—an act that would likely bring lethal consequences. The story follows the moral and practical dilemmas faced by those bound to a brutal, unforgiving contract in a foreign land.
