Synopsis

Isabella, raised in the aristocratic York household, is sent to an exclusive girls' academy to be shaped into a proper dame. Disenchanted and resigned about her prospects, she regards the institution as a confinement from life beyond its walls. Noticing her decline in studies and spirit, her family arranges for Violet Evergarden to assist her, presented to Isabella as a personal attendant. Initially distant and cool, Isabella assumes Violet's competence reflects an effortless privilege. Over time, however, Isabella learns that Violet carries her own hardships, which gradually prompts Isabella to lower her defenses. She confides in Violet about the painful absence of her younger sister, Taylor Bartlett, whom she longs to find again. Drawing on her experience helping others express complex feelings through writing, Violet offers to aid Isabella in composing a letter to Taylor. The story follows their evolving trust and whether Violet can help Isabella communicate the emotions she has kept hidden.
