Synopsis

In an alternate early 21st century, robotics advances rapidly across the globe. By 2050, Japan leads robotic engineering and production through Daiwa Heavy Industries. As machines begin to merge with human bodies, public perceptions shift dramatically, prompting the U.N. in 2067 to impose a global prohibition on further robotics research and development. Japan objects strongly but cannot stop the decision; in response it retreats from international affairs, maintaining only trade while pursuing intensive technological seclusion. A decade later, strange events prompt the U.S. technology enforcement agency known as SWORD to suspect that Japan has covertly continued forbidden work via the RACE network. SWORD sends a team of specialized operatives into Japan to collect intelligence. Among them is Vexille, an experienced field agent who gradually uncovers the disturbing reality behind Japan’s ten-year isolation and the prohibited projects hidden within.
