Synopsis

After the Pacific War, ninjas—once thought gone—resurface across modern Japan, operating covertly and embedding themselves within many public and private institutions. Rumored to number around two hundred thousand, they carry out clandestine missions that alter society's fabric. One of these operatives is Kurou Kumogakure, a 17-year-old who drifts through life in a shabby apartment, showing little ambition and eking out his days by petty means such as stealing beer from a neighbor. Dismissed by others as a purposeless slacker, Kurou conceals abilities that belie his apathetic exterior. When he receives an assignment requiring him to penetrate a local high school, his subdued existence is challenged and his true capabilities begin to surface, as the mission proves far more complicated and consequential than he anticipated.
