Synopsis

In a futuristic Japan where androids are commonplace yet social acceptance remains limited, Rikuo Sakisaka, a high school student, notices unusual movements recorded by his house android, Sammy. A mysterious log entry—"Are you enjoying the time of EVE?"—leads him, with his friend Masakazu Masaki, to a secluded café called Time of Eve. The café enforces a rule against showing bias, creating a space where patrons—human and android alike—mingle without outward signs to distinguish them. As Rikuo observes regulars ranging from a buoyant young woman, Akiko, to an android on the verge of mechanical failure, he seeks to uncover Sammy’s reasons for visiting. His investigation gradually raises doubts about the pervasive anxiety that drives people to treat androids strictly as objects, prompting a reassessment of moral boundaries, empathy, and the social norms that separate creators from their creations.
