Arisu Tachibana, a composed grade-school student intent on becoming an idol, is invited by her agency chief to join a fresh initiative called the Third Entertainment Section. She and eight other young trainees meet their assigned producer as they prepare for idol activities. The producer's appearance and demeanor—childlike and unlike what the girls expected—create initial disappointment and awkwardness, especially for Arisu, who hopes for someone different. The producer is also surprised, having not anticipated working with a group of petite, youthful idols and taking the role for the first time. Despite the mismatch, his sincere affection for idols and earnest commitment to helping them reach their potential persuade the girls to accept him. United by his determination and their own aspirations, they begin their shared path toward performing and realizing their dreams.
