Synopsis

Kouhei Araki is a seasoned editor in Genbu Publishing’s dictionary department who intends to retire to care for his ill wife. Before stepping down he must secure someone capable of finishing his current undertaking: a carefully crafted new dictionary called The Great Passage. Recruiting a successor proves difficult because compiling such a work demands exceptional patience, time, and commitment. Mitsuya Majime, a sales employee with limited social awareness but a deep passion for words and attentive habits born of his reading, attracts Araki’s attention. Araki offers Majime a role in the dictionary editorial team. Majime accepts but faces doubts about his competence and whether he will mesh with his colleagues. Through their shared labor among the countless entries, the project of The Great Passage becomes the bond that draws them together.
