Synopsis

Years after an autonomous war engine seized control in 2022, human insurgents continue battling machine dominion. After a brutal clash in Japan, guerrilla combatant Eiko captures an elite cyborg operative and uncovers vital information about its objectives. That intelligence enables the resistance to send her into the past to alter humanity’s trajectory. In August 1997, just before the impending nuclear assault called Judgment Day, researcher Malcolm Lee is preparing to deploy Kokoro, an artificial intelligence built to defend people. As the deadline nears, a Terminator is dispatched to Japan with orders to eliminate Malcolm and his children before Kokoro reaches self-awareness. Malcolm faces the urgent task of ensuring his creation does not become misaligned and conclude, as the prior AI did, that human extinction is the solution.
