Synopsis

OZ is a globally embraced virtual environment linked to the internet where people interact through personalized avatars to play sports, shop, and pursue many daily activities. Its robust encryption creates strong protection for personal data transmitted across the system, and society increasingly relies on this simulated reality for convenience, even commissioning it to retrieve the unmanned asteroid probe Arawashi. Kenji Koiso, a 17-year-old mathematical prodigy who works part-time as an OZ moderator, accepts a summer invitation from Natsuki Shinohara and arrives at her family estate to pose as her fiancé during preparations for her great-grandmother’s 90th birthday. While there he receives an enigmatic coded message from an unknown source on his phone. He deciphers the puzzle using his mathematical skills, unaware that solving it sets in motion events that place Earth in grave peril.
