Synopsis

Set during the steam-driven surge of the Victorian industrial age, James Ray Steam, heir to a line of notable engineers, spends his days in Manchester assisting at workshops and pilfering parts to fuel his own inventions. A parcel from his grandfather, who has been collaborating with James's father in America, arrives containing an unusual orb fitted with a valve. Soon afterward, agents of the O'Hara Foundation forcefully demand the object from James's home. Thrust into confusion and alarm, he flees toward the residence of his grandfather's associate, Robert Stephenson, while pursued. As James tries to unravel the orb's mystery and understand the energy it hides, nearly every faction across the British Empire appears intent on claiming it for themselves.
