Synopsis

Between the neighboring states of Ostania and Westalis, destabilizing forces and warmongers threaten a fragile peace. A skilled intelligence operative known as Twilight undertakes perilous assignments to avert conflict and protect future generations from wartime horrors. In Berlint, he assumes the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger to investigate influential politician Donovan Desmond, who is seldom seen outside the grounds of Eden Academy. To gain access, Loid arranges a fabricated household: he recruits Yor Briar, a single city hall employee, to pose as his spouse, and he adopts Anya, a curious six-year-old orphan, as his daughter so she can attend the prestigious academy. Each member of this constructed family conceals a hidden life—Loid conceals his role as a spy, Yor hides a lethal past as an assassin known as Thorn Princess, and Anya possesses the ability to read minds. Though their relationship begins as an elaborate ruse, the Forgers slowly form genuine bonds and find that their growing care for one another challenges the deceptions that brought them together.
