Synopsis
In the year 2199, after receiving a device known as the Cosmo Reverse System at Iscandar, the starship Yamato attempts to depart the Large Magellanic Cloud. At the cloud's boundary it encounters a mysterious faction identified as Gatlantis, led by an expeditionary commander calling himself Goran Dagaamu of Thunder, who demands custody of the ship. Seeking to return to Earth, Yamato withdraws but is struck by a powerful weapon named the Flame Direct Attack Cannon, capable of breaching space itself. Though able to escape, the ship becomes disoriented and arrives in an irregular, unnaturally colored dimension. With engines shut down, a landing party—Kodai, Kiryū, Sawamura, Niimi, and Aihara—descends to a nearby strange planet to gather information, where they discover a vessel that should not be present. Dagaamu, following the Yamato's warp signature, also enters the distorted space; the planet where Yamato landed turns out to be the objective he has been seeking.
