Synopsis

A massive meteorite struck Earth years earlier, and researchers recovered a mysterious capsule believed to be extraterrestrial, dubbed the "black box." An international research effort, Project BB, was established to study it. Nearby the project's headquarters, International Academy enrolls eight boys, including Manabu Yoshimura. Their teacher, Toukichi Hashiba, persuades them to participate in his experiment by offering class credit: they are to enter the meteorite's eight vacant chambers while concentrating on a vivid image of a powerful giant robot. Hashiba posits that intense human thought will provoke a response from the object. Unexpectedly, a large spacecraft appears and an alien who identifies himself as Wercury transmits a three-dimensional message, claiming origin from the Star of Prokimasi and declaring intent to reclaim the Choshin people's meteorite. He issues an ultimatum: surrender the artifact or face combat. The meteorite reacts to the boys' collective imagination and begins transforming into a gigantic machine. When a Prokimasi war robot attacks, the students must unite their wills to operate the formed robot—named Gakusaver by Hashiba—and resist the invaders. Coordinating eight minds into a single fighting force proves extremely challenging, and the group must find a way to synchronize their efforts to defend Earth and protect the meteorite from the Prokimasi assault.
