Synopsis

Shamans possess the rare capacity to perceive and interact with ghosts, spirits, and deities unseen by most people. Every five centuries, the Shaman Fight gathers practitioners from across the globe in a tournament whose victor is named Shaman King and granted the authority to summon the Great Spirit and reshape the world. Manta Oyamada, an ordinary middle school student, cuts through a cemetery on his way to class and encounters a solitary boy who invites him to look at the stars with “them.” Startled to learn the boy is accompanied by ghostly companions, Manta flees but later meets the boy again. The newcomer, You Asakura, is a shaman-in-training who demonstrates his abilities by partnering with Amidamaru, the spirit of a six-hundred-year-old samurai, to rescue Manta from attackers. Because Manta can perceive spirits, You forms a friendship with him, and with Amidamaru’s aid they embark on the journey toward You’s objective of becoming the next Shaman King.
