Synopsis

After being expelled from a convenience store for stealing, former Sendai Josei High School running standout Kakeru Kurahara avoids his chaser and encounters Haiji Kiyose, a fellow university student impressed by Kakeru’s speed. Haiji invites him to move into Chikusei-sou, a dilapidated boarding house occupied by nine students, and Kakeru, having lost his housing deposit gambling, accepts reluctantly. During a get-together, Haiji discloses that the building is intended to serve as the Kansei University Track Club, and he reveals his ambitious aim to compete in the Hakone Ekiden, a major university relay marathon. The catch: aside from Haiji and Kakeru, the residents lack any running experience and show no inclination to join his plan. With only a few months to prepare, Haiji must persuade reluctant housemates to train and attempt to turn his long-held aspiration of running at Hakone into reality.
