One year after the Sanctuary incidents, Subaru Natsuki dedicates himself to rigorous training to prepare for future threats. Their calm is interrupted when Emilia accepts a summons to a gathering in Priestella's Watergate City from Anastasia Hoshin, a contender from the royal selection. Due to the meeting's importance and possible hazards, Subaru and his companions join Emilia for protection. In Priestella, Subaru reconnects with former acquaintances, but the arrival of a new, determined adversary soon follows. This enemy pursues goals with fanatic zeal and employs brutal tactics that place Emilia in direct danger and threaten the safety of the city itself.
