Synopsis

By 2061, five decades after the emergence of a Network-based society, humanity relies on interconnected systems once expected to unify consciousness. Anticipated ideals gave way to issues like data breaches and manipulated information, yet people remained dependent on the system. A successor virtual domain with stronger protections—known as the Metal—was created to host personal memory data inside isolated organic cyber enclosures called bubble shells and became deeply integrated into daily existence. Within this safeguarded setting, individuals began to unleash suppressed impulses, allowing instinct and craving to swell amid a vast informational sea, while real-world rules and social constraints continued to apply. The resulting tension between lived reality and the Metal produced anomalous phenomena beyond conventional comprehension. Specialists who enter the Metal to examine and interpret these anomalies are called cyber divers. The narrative follows cyber diver Masamichi Haru as he investigates incidents that bridge the tangible world and the Metal.
