Synopsis

While training in China, Ranma Saotome and his father Genma suffer a mishap that leaves them afflicted by a peculiar curse: exposure to cold water causes Ranma to become a girl and Genma to take the form of a panda. Only immersion in hot water restores their original forms, but any new contact with cold water reactivates the transformations. Back in Japan, Ranma learns he has been promised in marriage to one of Soun Tendou’s daughters. At their families’ first gathering, the engagement to Akane, Soun’s youngest daughter, is confirmed amid strong objections from both households. Ranma and Akane, whose personalities clash, are compelled to share the same home. Ranma’s altered condition compounds daily friction, producing a sequence of humorous misunderstandings and complications that test their relationship and force them to navigate living together under difficult circumstances.
