The final words of the legendary Gold Roger spark a worldwide surge of piracy, launching a Great Pirate Era. A new crew of young adventurers prepares to navigate the Grand Line: Monkey D. Luffy, whose body gained elastic properties after eating a mysterious fruit; Roronoa Zoro, known as the fierce sword-fighter; Usopp, the marksman; Sanji, the ship’s cook; and Nami, the skilled thief and navigator. United as the Straw Hat crew, they pledge themselves before embarking on a perilous voyage across vast seas to pursue the title of Pirate King. Years earlier in Windmill Village, a boy named Luffy idolized the red-haired pirate Shanks. When local bandits harass Shanks’ group, Luffy reacts angrily and soon swallows the Gum-Gum Fruit, gaining rubber-like powers but losing his ability to swim. Later, bandit leader Higuma kidnaps Luffy and flees to the coast, where a giant sea creature attacks. Shanks confronts the beast to rescue Luffy, sacrificing his left arm in the process, and entrusts his treasured straw hat to the boy with the command to return it once he becomes a great pirate. A decade passes; now stronger and determined, Luffy departs on his own small craft. He confronts another sea monster and defeats it with a single Gum-Gum strike, marking the start of his campaign to claim the Pirate King title and gather companions for the journey ahead.
