Synopsis

In mid-1800s Edo, Seikichi Tamaya, a craftsman of pyrotechnics, and his companions cope with severe moral regulations enforced by a strict city official that prohibit indulgences, including fireworks. Their daily lives are constrained by these bans and the social pressures that accompany them. Into this controlled environment arrives an enigmatic young woman who presents Seikichi with an unusual commission: to create a firework designed to travel all the way to the moon. The request challenges the limits of his craft and offers a fragile spark of hope against a backdrop of repression.
