Synopsis

Hotaru Ichijou relocates from Tokyo to the remote village of Asahigaoka with her family, entering a markedly different pace of life. Her new school enrolls only five students who share one classroom across grades, and basic services are distant—buses can take up to two hours to arrive and there are no nearby convenience stores. Despite the isolation, Hotaru becomes drawn to the gentle rhythms of the countryside through the companionship of her four classmates. Among them is Renge Miyauchi, an unusually perceptive first-grader, and the three Koshigaya siblings: Suguru, the reserved eldest brother; Komari, a small-statured older sister; and Natsumi, a mischievous younger sister. Hotaru’s arrival from the city injects new perspective and curiosity into the group, and her developing friendships help to liven and subtly transform their everyday lives in Asahigaoka.
