Synopsis

In ancient Disboard, humanity teeters on the edge of extinction as sixteen sentient species called the Exceed vie for dominance and the establishment of the One True God among the Old Deus. Lacking magic and physical resilience, humans are marginalized and hunted across a lawless world. Riku, a hot-tempered young fighter determined to rescue his people, discovers a deactivated, advanced female Ex-Machina in an abandoned elven city. He names her Schwi. Cast out from her Cluster because her research focused on human emotions, Schwi believes that feelings are the essential force behind humanity’s survival and seeks to learn the truths of the human heart. In the midst of relentless conflict, Riku and Schwi form an unexpected partnership: each brings strengths that address the other’s weaknesses. As they confront constant danger together, their alliance forces them to confront questions of identity, empathy, and what it means to be human. United with this new bond, they strive to keep the human race alive and work toward a fragile peace across Disboard.
