Synopsis

Set during an enigmatic night that feels like it will not end, a college student persistently pursues a black-haired underclasswoman who occupies his thoughts. He has relied on a calculated routine of orchestrating frequent, seemingly accidental encounters in hopes of moving their relationship forward, but his attempts have yielded no progress. The young woman, conversely, interprets life through the lens of destiny and aims to try many new things, allowing events to unfold as fate dictates. While wandering Kyoto’s busy streets, she finds that a childhood book—an object tied to the origin of what she considers a fateful path—is available at a used bookshop. Learning this, the student sees another chance to engineer a happenstance meeting: he plans to obtain the book before she does, believing that doing so might create the connection between them that has so far eluded him.
