Synopsis

Set in contemporary Japan, this story follows Chigasaki Mayuko, a financially strained student living in the quiet town of Enohana. Her life becomes complicated when she ends up sharing a home with NieA, an alien of the low-ranking Under Seven caste who appears unconcerned with responsibility. The portrayal focuses on their day-to-day coexistence: Mayuko’s earnest efforts to cope with poverty and obligations contrast with NieA’s casual, often disruptive behavior. Their mismatched household dynamic produces awkward and poignant moments without revealing major plot developments, while the damaged alien mothership remains a silent presence in the background, a reminder of the larger circumstances that brought extraterrestrials to Earth.
