Synopsis

Natsume, while searching for Nyanko-sensei, encounters a small, timid youkai named Mitsumi. Mitsumi has been assigned by his leader Gantetsu, a formidable ayakashi, to serve as that year's Ishi Okoshi — the one charged with rousing Gantetsu from a prolonged sleep. Noting Mitsumi's resolve to validate his loyalty and usefulness to Gantetsu, Natsume offers his assistance in completing the ritual before others with similar aims intervene. In a separate episode, Natsume's friend Kaname Tanuma is visited by an unfamiliar man who later reveals himself to be a youkai taking human form and assures them he poses no threat. Despite Tanuma's trust, his health gradually declines, prompting Natsume to investigate the newcomer's intentions and the true nature of his connection to Tanuma.
