Takashi Natsume becomes lost on a forest errand and is saved by a nomadic youkai couple who craft sake cups. Drinking from a special cup called the One Night Cup fills him with vitality and makes every beverage taste exceptional for a single night. The next day he joins a youkai gathering accompanied by his stout, sake‑fond guardian Madara, where he receives a rare chance to learn the craft of making those cups. Later, after declining an unusual banquet invitation, Natsume regrets his choice and follows Madara to an ancient, dilapidated mansion. There he senses the presence of many spirits and meets Hinoe, a beguiling youkai who reveals that the empty estate is used for a hide‑and‑seek contest whose victor gains control over a valley. With Madara still missing, Natsume begins to experience unsettling dreams in which he participates in the mansion’s game, confronting the uncanny atmosphere and the contest among spirits.
