Two women who share the same name leave their hometowns to start anew in Tokyo. One Nana is bright and sociable, yearning for a tender relationship; after meeting Shouji Endo she commits to following him to the capital, working to gather the needed funds despite his plan to study there. The other Nana is a lone punk singer whose intense relationship with her band's bassist, Ren Honjou, ends abruptly. Heartbroken but determined, she relocates to Tokyo to chase recognition as a musician. Soon after arriving, a chance occurrence reunites the two Nanas and results in them becoming roommates. As they adapt to life in the city, they grow closer and provide mutual support while each pursues her distinct goals.
