Synopsis

A month has passed since the Karakasa affair, and life within the Inner Chambers appears to be settling back into routine. For the aristocratic clans who govern the nation, stability means persisting with calculated maneuvers to block any shifts in influence; their current focus falls on Fuki Tokita, a high-ranking concubine from a merchant family whose closeness to Lord Tenshi raises concerns about succession. Beneath this veneer of order, otherworldly forces linger. A string of unexplained fatalities forces the residents to admit the enigmatic Medicine Seller into their domain. He may be the sole figure capable of uncovering the source of these occurrences and clarifying what part, if any, Fuki occupies in the unfolding mystery.
