Synopsis

In feudal Japan, a solitary practitioner of occult arts travels the countryside hunting dangerous spirits known as mononoke. Rather than dispatching them by force, he must first determine three aspects—their Form, their Truth, and their Reason—so the Exorcism Sword will be effective. His method requires rigorous psychological inquiry and meticulous investigation, a perilous approach because understanding a mononoke means confronting it without immediate means of destruction. His path brings him to an old-style inn where a pregnant guest named Shino has been given the last available room. Soon it becomes apparent that the chamber is haunted by a lethal group of mononoke called the Zashiki Warashi. Relying on his investigative instincts, the practitioner begins the process of uncovering the spirit’s nature before it can claim more lives.
