Synopsis

In Cosmic Era 0071 the orbital colony Heliopolis maintains neutrality amid a galaxy-spanning conflict between Coordinators—people genetically modified before birth—and Naturals, unmodified inhabitants of Earth. Resentment from Naturals has driven many Coordinators off-planet into engineered habitats. Kira Yamato, a Coordinator and university student living on Heliopolis, has his ordinary life shattered when ZAFT, a militant group of dissident Coordinators, raids the colony to capture a series of five advanced mobile suits called Gundams. During the attack Kira ends up piloting the lone remaining Gundam, the Strike. After surviving the assault he and his classmates are taken aboard the Earth Alliance warship Archangel, where they begin to confront the realities of combat, the moral strains of conflict, and the grief that accompanies wartime losses.
