Synopsis

The Nocturnal Community Relations Division operates to resolve incidents involving enigmatic occult entities that remain hidden from the general populace. Arata Miyako, a new and unsuspecting recruit, is assigned to the Shinjuku Ward Office branch of this division, where he meets his colleagues, Theo Himezuka and Kyouichi Sakaki. During his inaugural night on duty, Arata embarks on a mission that reveals the tangible existence of supernatural creatures he once believed to be mythical. Furthermore, he discovers a unique ability: he is the sole human capable of comprehending their non-human language. His initial surprises continue when he encounters a legendary Tengu, which identifies him as Abe no Seimei, a renowned exorcist from the Heian era. Unfamiliar with this historical figure, Arata initially disregards the claim, focusing instead on utilizing his newfound linguistic skill to aid his team in their ongoing investigations. As various occult beings continue to mistake him for Abe no Seimei, and his distinct ability gains notoriety, Arata's curiosity about his own background intensifies. He begins to delve deeper into cases concerning the supernatural creatures he encounters, driven by the emerging possibility of a link between himself and the ancient exorcist. However, Arata soon realizes that navigating the world of supernatural beings is fraught with complexities, as peril becomes an inherent part of his daily work, and his unique gift starts to manifest unforeseen complications.
