Synopsis

Rei Kiriyama became a professional shogi player while still in middle school, placing him among a small group of elite competitors. That status brings intense expectations from both the shogi world and his adoptive family, creating a strained home environment. Seeking autonomy, Rei relocates to an apartment in Tokyo at seventeen. Living alone, he neglects his own wellbeing and withdraws socially, leaving him isolated at school and in the shogi community. Soon after arriving, he encounters three sisters — Akari, Hinata, and Momo Kawamoto — who live with their grandfather, proprietor of a traditional wagashi shop. Akari, the eldest, responds to Rei's loneliness with steady, caring attention, while the sisters, each affected by past loss, form a supportive, familial connection that Rei has rarely experienced. As Rei continues to pursue his shogi career, he confronts physical and emotional challenges and gradually works to engage with others and come to terms with his inner feelings.
