Synopsis

Rei Kiriyama, entering his second year of high school, balances the demands of a career in professional shogi with challenges in his personal life. Immersed in the lively atmosphere of the shogi hall, his school club, and the neighborhood, his long-standing isolation gradually gives way as he connects with others. The Kawamoto sisters—Akari, Hinata, and Momo—become especially important, offering a warm, familial closeness that helps him see how people around him carry their own emotional struggles. As these relationships deepen, Rei begins to accept mutual support, learning both to lean on others and to provide care in return. Simultaneously, the competitive realities of being a professional player persist: tournaments, title contests, and tough rivals test his resolve and skill as he climbs the ranks. Amidst the pressure and the bonds he forms, Rei continues to seek the personal meaning behind the game that shapes his life.
