Synopsis

In feudal Japan of the 1100s, a wandering swordsman named Kurou and his attendant Benkei flee relentless attackers and find refuge in a hidden forest dwelling owned by the enigmatic Kuromitsu. Welcomed into her home yet cautioned to avoid her private chamber, Kurou’s curiosity drives him to look inside and discover Kuromitsu sustains herself on the blood of the dead. Confronted with her immortality, Kurou binds himself to her fate, undergoing transformation into a vampire to share eternity at her side. That union is shattered when Benkei, aligned with a shadowy faction called the Red Army, betrays Kurou and severs his head. Kurou later revives in a devastated, post-apocalyptic present-day Japan and embarks on a journey across the ruined landscape to find Kuromitsu and settle the score with those who destroyed his past.
