Synopsis

In 2005, Tokyo is assaulted by subterranean alien beings known as Zonders. The clandestine defense force called the Gutsy Geoid Guard (3G) is humanity's primary shield, deploying their flagship mecha GaoGaiGar. Guy Shishio, GaoGaiGar's pilot and a former astronaut, survived a prior Zonder incident two years earlier when a robotic lion named Galeon rescued him from a destroyed shuttle. Using Galeon's technology, Guy's father, Leo, reconstructed his injured son into a cyborg capable of confronting the alien threat. GaoGaiGar, built around Galeon as its core, combats the Zonders with support from an allied group of transforming robots and a boy named Mamoru, who can cleanse the Zonders' cores and appears to have a connection to Galeon.
