After failing as a kamikaze, Ken Asuka turns to a violent, hard-edged lifestyle, using karate to handle conflicts. Encountering Eiji Yoshikawa’s novels about the famed swordsman Musashi Miyamoto prompts Ken to reshape his outlook and adopt Musashi’s way in his daily life. This change drives him to approach karate with greater discipline and purpose. The anime adapts a manga by Ikki Kajiwara and Jiro Tsunoda, which drew inspiration from the life of Yasunobu Oyama, the founder associated with the rigorous Kyokushin Karate tradition.
