Synopsis

Ichirou Inuyashiki, a 58-year-old husband and father, endures physical pain and emotional neglect from his family. He finds brief comfort in adopting an abandoned Shiba Inu named Hanako, but a medical follow-up reveals he has stomach cancer and only months to live. Overwhelmed by his family's apathy, Ichirou flees to a field, clutches his dog, and collapses in grief—then notices a strange figure nearby. A sudden burst of light and dust surrounds him, and when he awakens he discovers his body has been transformed into a mechanized form beneath the appearance of his human skin. Although bewildered, Ichirou responds with kindness, using his new abilities to rescue someone and feeling uplifted by the act. The source of the transformation and the identity and intent of the figure at the scene remain unknown, raising questions about whether others affected by the same event act with similar compassion or with darker aims.
