Synopsis

A century after massive tectonic upheavals submerged much of the land, Japan has reorganized into a nation defined by the sea. Coastal urban centers and extensive maritime routes are maintained and guarded by specialized naval forces, while a thriving marine sector draws young women toward careers safeguarding oceanic commerce. Among these defenders are the Blue Mermaids, an elite group of sailors who dedicate themselves to maritime security. Childhood companions Akeno Misaki and Moeka China reunite at Yokosuka Girls' Marine High School, where they train alongside peers intent on joining the Blue Mermaids. Selected to lead their own vessel and team, Akeno assumes command aboard the destroyer Harekaze and works to forge trust and cooperation among her crewmates. Their routine training, however, is disrupted when sudden failures of propulsion and navigation systems strand the ship and jeopardize everyone on board. The series follows the Harekaze's crew as they confront perilous conditions and various trials on their journey to earn full recognition as Blue Mermaids.
