Synopsis

Fourteen-year-old Naru Sekiya feels overshadowed by the idealized heroines she admires and unsure of herself among classmates. Her friends follow different paths: Yaya channels her energy into a school rock band, and Tami serves on the student council. Wishing for courage to move forward, Naru has secretly longed for something to unlock her reticence. One moonlit evening she encounters what looks like a tiny fairy dancing on a torii gate; the next day she learns the visitor is actually Hana N. Fountainstand, a newly transferred student from America. Hana, eager and focused on a lifelong fascination with yosakoi, asks Naru to help launch a yosakoi club. Though nervous about performing and exposed to others’ eyes, Naru gradually becomes engaged with the dynamic dance style and supports Hana’s effort to realize her aspiration—an experience that gently guides her toward greater self-assurance and the possibility of change.
