Synopsis

After graduation leaves Naoetsu Private High with few familiar students, Suruga Kanbaru — bearer of the Monkey’s Paw — encounters talk of a mysterious figure called the "Devil" who purportedly miraculously resolves people’s troubles. Suspecting the rumors concern her, Kanbaru investigates and finds Rouka Numachi, a former junior high basketball opponent sidelined by a leg injury, operating under that name. Rouka offers gratis counsel to visitors, positioning herself as a collector of misfortune who eases others’ burdens by giving them false expectations of resolution. Kanbaru, seeing no direct harm but objecting to Rouka’s deceit, admonishes her and departs, reassured she is not the subject of the gossip. That reassurance falters when Kanbaru discovers her left hand has returned to its normal human appearance, suggesting the situation may affect her after all.
