Synopsis

In a perpetual conflict between humans and witches, some individuals are born cursed as beastfallen: human in mind but bearing animal features and formidable strength. Shunned and mistrusted by both sides for their feral nature, many of these outcasts earn a living as mercenaries who hunt witches. Amid widespread hostility, a lighthearted witch named Zero hires one such beastfallen, calling him the Mercenary, to serve as her guardian. He accompanies Zero and Albus, an inexperienced magician, on a quest to recover the Grimoire of Zero, a potent spellbook whose misuse could have grave consequences. Throughout their travels, the Mercenary’s concealed gentleness emerges as he begins to show empathy toward humans and witches, and the trio gradually forges a bond while navigating danger and prejudice.
