Synopsis

East Tokyo United has endured several difficult seasons at the top level, scraping by to avoid relegation while enduring a five-game losing streak that has sapped confidence across the club. Supporter attendance is dropping and local municipal backing appears threatened as rumors swirl. Years of unstable leadership and questionable recruitment decisions have left the organization fragile. Facing those circumstances, general manager Kousei Gotou and the board make a risky choice: appoint Takeshi Tatsumi, an idiosyncratic figure who once left the club despite being a celebrated player. Since his departure, Tatsumi has rebuilt his reputation managing a lower-tier English amateur side. His appointment is controversial—many fans view him as disloyal—and he must contend with rivals who possess bigger budgets and deeper squads. Nevertheless, Tatsumi asserts he specializes in upsetting stronger opponents and takes on the challenge of turning the club's decline around without promising miracles.
