Synopsis
Set in the winter of 2028 during an uneasy postwar rebuilding, this fourth installment follows escalating unrest in New Port City as protests flare over foreign cartel interests and a clash with riot police results in gunfire. The crisis stems from a cyberbrain pathogen unleashed by a terrorist known as the "Fire Starter." Motoko Kusanagi leads an autonomous strike team that entrusts suppression to their ghosts while pursuing their own sense of justice. Beneath the public events are two enigmatic figures — the "tin girl" Emma and the "scarecrow man" Burinda Junior — whose aims lie hidden beneath the surface of the incident. As Kusanagi investigates, she moves closer to understanding what those two ghosts sought.
