Synopsis

Tokyo, 1969: a city thriving on technological and industrial progress, yet under a hidden threat. Unknown entities called Invaders have blended into the population, their nature and intent unexplained. Only a secret organization, AEGIS, is aware of the danger and works in secrecy to counter it. Their most effective operatives are those who can open 'Gates' to another realm; these Gate users form an elite unit known as the Gate Keepers. Tasked with confronting the Invaders, the Gate Keepers possess diverse Gate-related talents that enable them to combat the mysterious assaults. Shun Ukiya, an ordinary high schooler living with his widowed mother and young sister, encounters Invaders near his home and, in trying to protect his family, discovers he can activate a Gate and wield tremendous energy. His ability draws AEGIS's attention and reconnects him with Ruriko Ikusawa, a childhood friend who serves as one of the Gate Keepers. The series follows the tension between everyday life and secret warfare as gifted individuals confront an obscure menace threatening humanity.
