Synopsis

Under the authority of the crown, the Valiante Kingdom has carried out systematic campaigns to eliminate those accused of witchcraft, campaigns that have intensified in scale and severity over seventeen years. Unknown to the general populace, the supposed witches include covert defenders of humanity: Makai Knights and Alchemists who confront Horrors, malevolent beings born from souls consumed by sorrow and suffering. Seventeen-year-old Leon Luis becomes one such defender when he receives the storied armor of the Golden Knight Garo from his mother. Although endowed with significant combat ability, Leon is weighed down by the hatred he feels over his mother’s death at the hands of the kingdom. His father, German—renowned as Zoro the Shadow Cutting Knight—continues Leon’s training even as he responds to reports of an increase in Horror activity in the capital. Aware of Leon’s inner turmoil, German nevertheless brings him along so his instruction can continue amid real danger. Meanwhile, the king’s affable son, Alfonso San Valiante, seeks a way to address the escalating Horror menace. Before he can implement any measures, he is betrayed and expelled from the realm. Determined to return and reclaim his position, Alfonso searches for allies and strength. His path intersects with Leon’s, and their meeting sets both on courses that will alter their lives and destinies. The story follows themes of duty, grief, and the clash between official persecution and secret guardianship, set against a backdrop of demonic threat and political upheaval.
