After a devastating conflict involving Shinra, Avalanche, and Sephiroth, the planet begins a slow recovery. Near Midgar's shattered remains, a farming community called Edge emerges. Reeve Tuesti, once in charge of urban planning at Shinra, leads the World Regenesis Organization, dedicated to repairing and safeguarding the environment. He evaluates a young boy, Denzel, for membership. Denzel tells Reeve about his painful past: how the fallout from the battles destroyed Midgar and erased the lives of those he loved. As he relates these memories, Denzel gradually uncovers a sense of direction and intent through the possibility of contributing to the planet’s restoration.
