Synopsis

Set in 2148, two years after the events of the original series, the survivors on Tatsumiya Island are slowly rebuilding. Kazuki, now partially paralyzed and nearly blind from earlier encounters with the Festum, holds onto a promise made by his fallen comrade Sōshi that they would return and restore the island. That hope is rekindled when an unmanned submarine drifts into Tatsumiya Bay carrying a single occupant: Misao Kurusu, a strange young individual who may not be fully human and who asserts that Sōshi sent him. Misao’s presence escalates tensions between humanity and the Festum, drawing the Fafner pilots into a new, more desperate conflict that places the future of both species in their hands.
