Takato and Guilmon take a trip to Okinawa where they encounter another tamer, Minami. Upon returning to Japan, a widely used virtual pet suddenly mutates into a malicious program, spreading to every device that hosts it. As the infection escalates and digimon begin targeting his new acquaintance, Takato works to uncover the reason behind the assaults and how Minami is connected to the outbreak.
